Experience across a variety of computing arenas: Unix System Administration, data harvesting and analysis, internet solutions, application development, network security, IDS, back-end web site integration and design. * programming languages: Perl, C, C++, SQL, PHP, JavaScript, sh and csh variants * operating systems: Linux, Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, IRIX * internet: TCP/IP, VLAN, security and authentication, firewalls, proxies * infrastructure: rsync, ssh, MySQL * security : IDS integration, tcpdump, Snort, Nessus, Argus, packet/flow analysis * web: Apache/NCSA, mod_perl, PHP, JavaScript, XML, CSS, server/client configuration, HTML, all around web wrangling EMPLOYMENT: Software/Infrastructure Developer Shell International Exploration and Production [Bluware, Inc.], September 2004 - Present Designed, built, and utilized the tools and processes integral to the consolidation, merging, and updating of approximately 30 terabytes of distributed seismic data from various applications into a centralized global file structure hosted on net appliances. Software/Security/Infrastructure Developer Shell Information Technology [Bluware, Inc.], June 2003 - September 2004 Worked with a security team to construct an IDS and network monitoring suite built around such tools as tcpdump, snort, and argus. Linux-based processing stacks were installed in three global data centers along with approximately 300 autonomous remote sensors at smaller installations. Analysis and reports were based on approximately 3 terabytes of full packet capture data per day. Built tools for: session correlation between RADIUS, citrix, GRE, and internal network activity; flow analysis and virus detection and propagation tracking; and full session reconstruction up to and including the application layer in some cases. Software Developer Network Security Solutions, January 2003 - June 2003 Developed the back-end scheduler, processor, and data store for a nessus remote integration tool for black-box remote sensors deployed amongst SMB's. Sabbatical February 2001- January 2003 Explored 18 countries between New Zealand and Ireland. Software/Infrastructure Developer Shell Services International [Bluware, Inc.], November 1998 - January 2001 Deployed and supported utilities such as Perl and Netscape across a large heterogeneous Unix network. Created a package management environment for generically providing architecture, version, and depot maintenance across all Unix environments. Implemented scanning tools for security baseline audits across Unix platforms. Created framework for active system queries and analysis of approximately 1500 Unix hosts. Implemented employee-lookup bridge from LDAP repository to legacy Unix CLI tool via a query spider. Software Developer Shell Exploration & Production [Bluware, Inc.], September 1997 - November 1998 Supported and enhanced Trap Analysis, a C++ 2D graphics program used to determine the likelihood of hydrocarbon traps across fault faces. Supported and enhanced CurveSpace, a C++ program used to visually compare and process oil traces. Internet Developer/Security Analyst Shell Oil Company, Shell Services, April 1996 - September 1997 Supported, maintained, and monitored the Shell internet firewall, consisting of parallel TIS Gauntlet proxy machines. Served as technical consultant on numerous web and internet related projects and policies. Developed CGI/automation solutions for web projects mainly in Perl and JavaScript, including an automatically updated Shell service station location/map database, and a historical Shell stock price interface based on Royal Dutch stock prices automatically retrieved daily from the web. Deployed web applications such as Mosaic, Netscape, and associated helper applications across heterogeneous Unix network. System Administrator/Data Security Analyst/Web Developer Shell Oil Company, Bellaire Technology Center, May 1994 - April 1996 Data Security Representative: responsible for ensuring machines were secure from data loss due to malice (viruses, worms, hacks, etc.) or neglect (procedures, carelessness). A variety of tools were employed at the time, including Tripwire, Tiger, Satan, and Crack. Site webmaster: First introduced the Apache web server, developed and maintained many automated and CGI tasks using Perl. Created and maintained site-specific web documentation. Along with other site representatives, instrumental in introducing web technology to the Shell intranet. Introduced SGI IRIX machines to the Shell environment, building all support infrastructures and handling all system administration. Second level Unix support (provided support for site system administrators) for SunOS, Solaris, AIX, and HP-UX. System Administrator Shell Exploration & Production, February 1992 - May 1994 System administrator on a variety of Unix flavors: SunOS, AIX, HP-UX. Assisted in the design and installation of quality control network on board the Shell America, a seismic surveying ship. The network consisted of Sun Sparc II and IBM RS6000/480 workstations integrated with the existing Unisys data acquisition mainframe, along with a wireless TCP/IP network connection to workstations on a sister survey ship, the Betty Chouest. The entire network was designed with full redundancy and hot disk replacements for minimal downtime during surveys. Coordinated and implemented site migration of PC's from DOS to Windows 3.1 and token ring network. Updated legacy FORTRAN programs. Computer Analyst Science Applications International, Inc., June 1991 - September 1991 Worked on data acquisition systems for nuclear power plants. Systems were composed of VAX mainframes and data acquisition arrays networked with DECNET. Designed and implemented a Novell networked CAD depot for the drafting employees. EDUCATION: B.E.
